DeKalb Recovers Legal Fees In Trump Election Fraud Lawsuit
"DeKalb County received the money for its legal fees in the lawsuit Monday, saying payment was made "through counsel."
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — DeKalb County just won back the legal fees it spent in an election fraud lawsuit between the county and former President Donald Trump, his campaign and the Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer.
DeKalb County joined Cobb County in suing Trump, his campaign and Shafer in February for legal fees after the three filed a lawsuit in December — naming DeKalb County's director of voter registration and elections, Erica Hamilton, as one of the defendants — alleging fraud and irregularities in the presidential election in Georgia.
Thirteen other county election department managers were also listed as defendants, as well as Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Since Hamilton was sued in her capacity as a county employee, taxpayer dollars were used to cover legal fees.
Trump's lawsuit was withdrawn in Jan. 7, just one day after the Capitol siege and certification of President Joe Biden's victory.
But last week, the county received $6,105 to cover its legal costs through June 1, a DeKalb court brief filed late Monday said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"The two motions [for attorneys' fees] have been withdrawn. There was no settlement agreement," Trump attorney Randy Evans told The AJC. "The taxpayers in DeKalb and Cobb have been fully reimbursed. There are no other details because there are no other details."
Evans would not say who paid the fees, but denied that it was Trump. Daniel White, the attorney representing Cobb County, confirmed the payment came from Evans' law firm, The AJC reported."
