"Freddie Gray while in police custody, the story has been "handled by the media with all the deft, not-at-all racist touch that they’ve become known for," Oliver said.
A hilariously painful clip of Geraldo Rivera confusing a protestor with Russell Simmons in an interview was pretty bad, but seeing Brian Todd of CNN make the same mistake with the same protestor (and pushing it even when corrected) pretty much clinched Oliver's case.
"Geraldo, you do realize that when African Americans stand together as one, that does not mean they’re all literally the same person, right?" Oliver said.
On top of that, Oliver ripped into judges who set $500,000 bail for a protestor charged with misdemeanor crimes for breaking car windows, more than the police officers charged with Gray's death. There was really only one way that could possibly make sense, Oliver said.
"In fact, the only explanation for his bail being set that high is that, just like Geraldo Rivera and that guy from CNN, judges in Baltimore can’t look at black people without seeing millionaire Russell Simmons."
